About the museum
The Fundació Perelló, established in 1996, aims to preserve and promote the work of the sculptor Jaume Perelló i Miró and to foster the visual arts among Catalan artists, with particular attention to sculpture. It is run by a board made up of the town councils of Bellpuig and Torrefarrera, the Consell Comarcal de l'Urgell, the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs and personalities from the cultural world. Its headquarters is in Bellpuig, where the museum with the artist's work is located.
Jaume Perelló i Miró (1927–2015) was born in Torrefarrera, of which he is a favourite son, and lived much of his life in Bellpuig, which made him an adopted son. His work spread across Europe and America. Among his creations are the Cristo del Amor, a nine-metre carving in the Santuario del Carmen in Burgos, the alabaster and stone altarpieces of the Bishop's Palace in Lleida and of the church of Santa Maria in Cervera, and the monument to the Millennium of Catalonia in Bellpuig, which combines metal, glass and water.
The foundation also awards the Sant Jordi Fine Arts Prize, which it first presented in 2000 at La Pedrera in Barcelona and which, in recent editions, has been devoted to sculpture.
