About the museum
The Museu del Bast is in Llaberia, a small settlement in the sierra of the same name that belongs to the municipality of Tivissa, in the Ribera d’Ebre. It was founded by Emili Boada and is devoted to the figure of the muleteer (arriero) and to transport by pack animal along mountain paths, an aspect of Catalan culture to which, according to local sources, no other museum in the country is dedicated.
The exhibition recreates settings of traditional Catalan rural life using tools and utensils that have since disappeared, gathered over more than forty years of research. It covers the countryside, transport, the school and the farmhouse, with the collaboration of Josep Volta, from Capçanes.
The building, from the 17th century, is a rectangular corner house on Carrer del Forn, next to the Portalet arch, and is listed in the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya.

Getting there & parking
Llaberia is about 30 minutes from Tivissa. From the north-east exit of Tivissa, take the T-304 to the C-44 heading east, follow it for about 11.5 km, then take the T-311 for about 9 km to the settlement. The road has many bends and, in winter, at that altitude it may be dangerous because of the weather.
