About the museum
The Museu Municipal Lula Pérez-Marçaginé in Marçà, in the Priorat, is dedicated to the local sculptor Marçel·lí Giné, known as Marçà-Giné (1918–2006), and to his wife, Lula Pérez (1924–2004). The couple created a sculptural style that is very well executed and at the same time unsettling, with a critical gaze on the future of the world and the earth.
Marçà-Giné began to study sculpture at the Barcelona school of fine arts at the age of 29, with Lluís Oslé as his teacher, and then took ceramics at the Escola Industrial. From 1948 onwards he regularly took part in competitions and received awards at national exhibitions. He worked above all on anatomy and terracotta, which allowed him to be prolific and independent, and his small pieces called “hallazgos” (finds) show sharpness and improvisation.
The museum also exhibits painting by Josep Sancho Piqué (1872–1959), a native of Marçà, and by other local artists such as Amat Pellejà, Núria Estapé and Joaquim Santaló. On the third floor there is also an exhibition of archaeological remains found in the area.
