About the museum
The museum occupies a former olive oil mill in Castelldans, in the comarca of Les Garrigues, and is owned by the local farming cooperative. It is known as the Museu del Pagès and, according to the town council, has been renamed Museu de l'Oli i del Món Rural.
Its collection brings together the tools, implements and equipment used to harvest olives and make oil, along with other collections of work tools that the farmers of Les Garrigues have used since ancient times.
The museum opens to the public for a limited summer season and otherwise only for pre-arranged guided visits. An open day is also held during the Fira de l'Oli Nou, the fair dedicated to new oil that takes place every December.
