About the museum

The Museu del Papiol was born in 2012 through the Associació Museu del Papiol, a local body driven by the sculptor Eduard Serra and formed by a group of volunteers committed to the town's heritage and to recovering its historical memory. Its aims are to research, conserve, promote and disseminate the tangible and intangible heritage of El Papiol.

The museum occupies the former dining room of the town's old public schools. Its collection, which is privately owned but publicly accessible, comes from donations by private individuals and brings together material gathered by the members of the association. The inventory has around 1,600 records, although some correspond to collections that are recorded only as a whole.

The holdings are mainly of historical and testimonial value, with a particular emphasis on the post-war period, daily life, the agricultural world and traditional crafts. The site has a permanent exhibition, and the association organises thematic exhibitions, often accompanied by catalogues.
