About the museum
The Parque del Tren de Trinitarios is officially the Centro de Interpretación del Ferrocarril y de las Vías Verdes de Trinitarios, in Pamplona. It is run by the Asociación Navarra de Amigos del Ferrocarril (ANAF), a non-profit body founded in 1959 that brings together enthusiasts of real railways and model railways and operates with volunteers, without external help. Its aim is to bring the history of the train in Navarre to the public, with particular attention to the greenways that once crossed the region and had Pamplona as their hub.
The site covers about 6,740 square metres within the Parque de los Trinitarios. It has a themed circuit with wooden fences, signals, sidings and traffic lights, engine sheds for the locomotives, a main building imitating a station, with an exhibition area, a library and a multipurpose space, and a turntable where various locomotives can be seen. Visitors ride the circuit on miniature trains, with carriages and locomotives reproducing vehicles from different eras, passing through tunnels, bridges and embankments.
Group visits include a train classroom with a video about the last journey of the Irati train in 1955, explanations of the three types of traction (steam, electric and diesel), a turntable manoeuvre and, optionally, a room with models at scales 1:87 and 1:160. The association reports more than 40,000 visitors since the opening.
