About the museum
The Sala de Exposicións Porta Miñá occupies a former municipal slaughterhouse, restored for this use, opposite the gate in the city walls that gives it its name and next to the Iglesia del Carmen. It is one of the Salas Museísticas Municipais run by the Lugo town council (Concello).
The room hosts a permanent exhibition on Roman Lugo. The route is organised into four sections, covering the origins, the splendour, the fortification of the city and its decline, and spans the period from the foundation of Lucus Augusti in the 1st century BC to its decline at the end of the 5th century AD.
Throughout the exhibition, graphic elements explain the main aspects of the ancient Roman city, alongside a broad and distinctive collection of objects significant for everyday life in Roman Lugo.
