About the museum
Ågs hytta is an old ironworks at the outflow of the Isalaån from Ågsjön, a little over 10 km north-east of Svärdsjö. The works was established in 1828 and was in operation until 1927. After closure the buildings were left untouched, and today the blast furnace, small forge (klensmedja), workers' housing and a large slag heap remain.
Pig iron from Ågs hytta was transported across the lakes to Korså bruk, where it was worked into bar iron (stångjärn). The site is one of the preserved environments along Falu Gruva's Järnets väg (the Iron Road), which follows the path of iron from mine to finished product. According to Falu Gruva, the site also has a shop, a manager's residence and workers' housing.
