About the museum
The railway between Jädraås and Tallås opened in 1884 as part of the narrow-gauge lines that in 1897 became the Dala–Ockelbo–Norrsundets Järnväg (DONJ). The Jädraås blast furnace closed in the 1930s and the Lancashire forge in 1942. Traffic on the DONJ from Jädraås towards the coast ceased in 1970.
The museum activity began with an association formed in 1961, which later took the name Museisällskapet Jädraås–Tallås Järnväg (JTJ). The first museum trains ran between Jädraås and Tallås in the early 1970s. The line is about six kilometres long with a gauge of 891 mm, and the route was extended further, including with the terminus Svartbäcken Nedre, created in 2000.
Tallås station was built in 1880, and the station building at Jädraås dates from 1884. On summer operating days steam trains run in the style of the first half of the 20th century, with a stop of about half an hour at Tallås on the return journey.
