About the museum

Åstradsgården is farm no. 1 in the village of Brågarp, which today is part of Staffanstorp. The village is mentioned in writing in 1460, when it was called Broghorpp, and the farm already existed then. The name comes from Anders Åstradsson, who owned the farm in the late 19th century and rebuilt it in the 1890s, when the dwelling house acquired the appearance it still has.

In 1904 the farm was bought by Svenska Sockerbruks AB (Swedish Sugar Company), which converted the dwelling house into four staff residences and demolished the outbuildings. The municipality bought the farm in 1977 to build housing, and in 1982 it was threatened with demolition. Protests from the public saved it, and in 1983 Staffanstorps hembygdsförening (Staffanstorp Local Heritage Association) was granted the right of use of the farm. Since 1982 it has been the association’s local history museum.

The museum holds about 3,200 registered objects, mainly on crafts, farming, beekeeping and shoemaking, as well as a collection of textiles. The farm was renovated in 2009 after it was sold to the municipality’s property company, and in 2014 the exhibition was rearranged. A school museum in part of the farm was inaugurated on 16 October 2021.
