About the museum
Alingsås museum is in the middle of Alingsås, at Lilla torget, in the Alströmerska magasinet (the Alströmer warehouse). The warehouse was built by Jonas Alströmer around 1730 and is the town's oldest secular building. Originally the house was used as a materials store for the Alingsås manufactory, and among others Carl von Linné visited it on 7 July 1746.
Today the museum tells of the people, events and objects that have shaped the town and its culture. The exhibitions cover, among other things, the textile town of Alingsås in the 19th and 20th centuries, the importance of water through the ages, objects from prehistoric times and the warehouse environment of the 18th century, with cotton bales and clay pipes.
The museum also has exhibitions at Nolhaga slott (Nolhaga Castle) and offers tours, school programmes, historical city walks and events. Admission to all exhibitions is free.
