About the museum

Tollereds Öfvre Kraftstation is one of the country's oldest hydroelectric power stations. The building was erected in 1908, and water was released on 2 July 1909. The power station was built to electrify the spinning mill at Nääs Fabriker and remained in operation until 1981.

Öfvre and Nedre Kraftstation used the 66-metre drop between Torskabotten and Sävelången, with a maximum output of 1,550 kilowatts. Between 1909 and 1951 the factory and the industrial village were entirely dependent on the company's own power stations. For many years the operation was run by a single machinist, Hjalmar Olsson, and later the staff worked in two shifts. In 1976 the stations were sold to Viskans Kraft.

Today the power station is cared for by a non-profit museum association. The machines have been preserved so that the station looks as it did when the last machinist locked up and went home. The association also shows the old gasworks, Vigselverket, which can be rented for weddings, lectures and dinners.
