About the museum
Asarums Bygdemuseum på Stenbacka opened in 1974 and is run on a voluntary basis by Asarum local heritage society, which was formed after the municipal amalgamation of 1967. The museum is housed in the municipally owned stone barns at Stenbacka, which were probably built around 1850 and are examples of older genuine building craftsmanship. The farm’s main house is still privately owned.
In one of the barns several period interiors have been set up. The collection shows homes and households and a long list of craft trades, as well as fishing and forestry. A smaller 19th-century dwelling is in Ivar’s cottage, which was moved from Gungvala, and in 2011 one of two bond soldiers’ cottages from Båtsmansvägen in Asarum was moved to Stenbacka.
In cooperation with Blekinge Museum, a permanent exhibition has been put together about the master builder, local historian and draughtsman August Holmberg from Pepparbacken in Svängsta. In summer, evening concerts are held with coffee served.
