About the museum
Gränums bränneri was built in 1897 of brick as a potato distillery and was in operation until 1971. Farmers joined together and started it as a cooperative distillery; at its peak it had seven shareholders. The work was seasonal and went on during the harvest, the so-called kampanj (campaign). When the distillery in Åhus took over a large part of production, it marked the end for Gränum.
The building has remained largely unchanged, both outside and inside, since the 19th century. In most places the equipment has been scattered, but in Gränum the door was locked and the machines were left standing. The distillery is one of the few in Sweden where the equipment is more or less complete.
The building was declared a listed building in 1993 and is owned by the Stiftelsen för Gränums Bränneri (Gränums Bränneri Foundation), which manages and preserves the distillery and its interior. Visits take place by arrangement and can be combined with a guided tour.
