About the museum

ABUmuseet tells the story of AB Urfabriken, later ABU, which Carl August Borgström founded in 1921 in Svängsta by the Mörrumsån river. Borgström had previously worked as a foreman at Haldafabriken. The company began with pocket watches and taximeters and over time became a world leader in fishing reels.

The museum is housed in the historic factory building and shows how Swedish engineering and precision mechanics created a global legend in the fishing tackle industry. The collection includes fishing reels, from the first Ambassadeur models to later precision-made reels, as well as fishing lures, clockwork and taximeters.

The museum is run by the association ABUmuseet Svängsta, and membership gives free admission. The website is gradually being expanded with more exhibitions and stories.
