About the museum
The Sjöfartsmuseet i Karlshamn (Karlshamn Maritime Museum) shows the history of shipping in Blekinge and is run by the voluntary Föreningen Sjöfartsmuseet i Karlshamn (Karlshamn Maritime Museum Association), formed in 1987. The museum is housed in a tobacco warehouse from 1878 in the harbour and opened in 1997.
The collections include, among other things, the interior from Algot Bengtsson’s ship chandlery (skeppshandel), ship paintings, a segelfartygsskans (sailing-ship skans) from the mid-19th century, the rescue basket from Hanö, boat engines, anchors and fishing boat fittings. The museum also has a picture archive, logbooks and a large collection of photographs by the Karlshamn photographers Arne Andersson and Börje Andersson.
Between 1987 and 2021 the association published the museum’s yearbook.
