About the museum
Borgviks Bruk AB was not only an ironworks but also a large agricultural estate with many dairy cows and extensive grain production. The museum building was originally a grain store where grain was dried. Shavings and other waste from the sawmill on the other side of the river were taken to the boiler house next door, and from there warm air was blown into the storehouse's cellar.
In connection with Billerud's centenary in 1983 the storehouse was converted into a museum, and an exhibition about the forest and forestry was shown at that time. The museum is run by Borgviks hembygdsförening (Borgvik Local Heritage Society).
Today a permanent exhibition on the iron's path from the forest to the finished product is shown on floor 2, and smaller exhibitions are on floor 1. Visitors can also search for historical information about places and people in Borgvik digitally; ask at reception. The museum lies in the middle of one of Värmland's best-preserved works environments, near the blast furnace ruin, Borgviks kyrka (church) and the Sliperiet.
