About the museum
The farm Nordtomten in Vegerbol in Värmskog is the childhood home of Lars Magnus Ericsson, founder of the Swedish telephone industry. He was born here on 5 May 1846 and grew up on the farm. He died in 1926 at Hågelby farm in Tumba.
The farm had stood empty for several years when Värmskogs fornminnes- och hembygdsförening (Värmskog ancient monuments and local heritage society), led by parish curate (komminister) John Engvall, bought it in spring 1956. Nordtomta was renovated, supplemented in 1960 with a smaller outbuilding, and the residential house was furnished as a telephone museum. On 20 August 1961 the farm was inaugurated as a homestead and memorial farm, with a bronze bust of Lars Magnus Ericsson donated by the telephone company.
The memorial farm displays an exhibition of telephones and other equipment from Ericsson's early production, together with the company's history and the life of Lars Magnus Ericsson. The farm is also furnished as a simple 19th-century farmhouse. Next to it is a mineral museum with minerals from the district's mines, and Vegerbol silver mine, where Ericsson worked as a young man, lies within walking distance, about 1.3 km away.
