About the museum
Brandstad Prästgård is the preserved living wing of a former four-wing half-timbered farmstead. The parsonage's history goes back to 1682, when it was rebuilt after a devastating fire. It was probably built during Danish rule and is considered the oldest preserved parsonage dwelling in Skåne. The living wing was the priest's residence until 1907, and after that the farm was leased out until 1946.
It was not until 1947 that Färs Härads Hembygdsförening (Färs härad local heritage association) took over the farm, and it restored it in 1961. The building stands on a traditional parsonage plot by the medieval Brandstad church and is of great value to the surroundings. The furnishings date from the late 19th century and around 1900, and two rooms are furnished with furniture and textiles from donations made in 1961 and 1985.
In 2009 Nils Andersson's room was renovated and the exhibition was renewed. At the same time a new permanent exhibition was set up with furniture and clothes that belonged to the farmer and member of the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) Nils Månsson, known as Skumpen (1776–1837), from Frenninge parish. In autumn 2022 the staircase to the entrance was adapted for visitors using wheelchairs or with reduced mobility.
