About the museum
Piratenmuseet is located in the old track warden’s cottage in Vollsjö, a stone’s throw from where the station building stood. Since 1998 the museum has portrayed the life and works of the author Fritiof Nilsson Piraten, one of the great storytellers of Swedish literature. Piraten was first a lawyer and then became an author, and Vollsjö is recognisable from his books.
The museum is run by Fritiof Nilsson Piraten Sällskapet (the Fritiof Nilsson Piraten Society), founded in 1982. The permanent exhibition is constantly being expanded and supplemented, among other things with personal objects that the society has received as gifts. In the museum you can buy books, records and DVDs, and the antiquarian bookshop Jakobs Boklåda is also here. Events are also held on the museum stage. A museum host gladly answers questions about Piraten.
In the park visitors can sit on a bench beside Piraten, who is part of the sculpture group “Saga väves på sanningens varp” (Saga is woven on the warp of truth). Also here are the figures Bombi Bitt, Eli and the cat Skorpan. Within walking distance lie Pumphuset, Stampabron and other places that readers will recognise from Piraten’s books.
