About the museum

Brandstorp homestead museum lies in Brandstorp church village on the western shore of Lake Vättern, between Hjo and Habo. The local heritage society runs several museum buildings on the site.

One of the most notable objects is an octagonal wooden tent from 1872, built at Alvasjö farm as a summer residence for the children of the von Essen family. The tent was donated to the local heritage society in the 1990s and restored. In the museum house, donated objects about everyday life are shown, with an emphasis on shipping and working life on Lake Vättern, and there is also a dolls' house that belonged to Ingrid von Essen.

In the barn museum rural life through the year is shown with carts, sledges and skis, as well as a women's kitchen and a laundry house. The smithy, which is linked to Husqvarna's weapons manufacture, is shown at times with smithing demonstrations. In addition there is an old country shop that closed and was left as it was, named after Anders Levin Andersson, who started his business in 1909. In the former folk school (folkskola) next door there is a village shop and a café.
