About the museum
Daretorpsbygdens intresseförening (Daretorp district interest association) was formed in 1995 with the aim of developing and preserving the district. Since its start, the association has built up Parhuset in Gälleberg, created a forestry museum and published three books about farms and people in Daretorp parish.
The exhibition Årsringar – skog och skogsbruk från forna dagar (Annual Rings – Forests and Forestry from Bygone Days) is shown in the Kulturladan (culture barn). It depicts forestry in the area around Hökensås in the 1900s, with about 400–500 tools, including hunting and fishing equipment, berry-picking aids and a collection of fifty chainsaws. The exhibition also tells the story of tar production in Blåhult in the 1940s.
Oskar Engström's hand-carved wooden figures are also shown in the Kulturladan. The collection is kept together and displayed in connection with exhibitions and activities. The entire exhibition is also available in a searchable database on the museum's website.
