Brevens Bruk museum

About the museum

Brevens bruk was an iron and foundry works. Here a blast furnace (masugn) and a roasting furnace (rostugn) were built in the 1820s, and at the beginning of the 20th century the works were modernised: the blast furnace was rebuilt in 1903 and a new roasting furnace was built in 1905. Unlike other parts of Bergslagen, there were no mines on the site; the ore was transported in from elsewhere. The works was known for its fine castings, and Djurgårdsbron in Stockholm was cast here.

The Bruksmuseet (industrial heritage museum) is housed in the old granary, which was built in 1786. The museum shows production from the old ironworks, with plaster and wooden patterns, cast-iron products and large window frames.

The museum is located just behind the office of Brevens Bruk AB and is open all year round. Key cards for the door are collected from Brevens Bruk AB, Brevensgården Pub & Restaurang or Brevens Café & Butik.
