About the museum

Högsjö hembygds- och bruksmuseum (Högsjö Local Heritage and Works Museum) is located in the old cultural environment around the works in Högsjö, in Vingåker Municipality. The works museum is housed in the white school building on Pampetorpsallén and is run by Högsjö Kulturmiljöförening (Högsjö Cultural Environment Association).

The museum documents the company Schullström och Sjöströms Fabriksaktiebolag, which J. W. Schullström formed in Högsjö in 1862 to manufacture machine felt for paper mills. The exhibitions show the working environments of the works, with both office rooms and machine halls.

The association's task is to document and maintain the machines in the museum and to arrange tours. The machines, such as the card (karda), needle loom (nålmaskin), twine machine (snoddmaskin), spinning machine, fulling machine (valkmaskin) and loom, can be run to show how production was carried out. The ironworks at Högsjö has roots in the 17th century, and the textile industry took over in the 19th century.
