About the museum
Disagården is an open-air museum next to the royal mounds in Gamla Uppsala and is run by Stiftelsen Upplandsmuseet. The museum aims to give a picture of an Uppland village as it may have looked in the mid-19th century, before the laga skifte (land-consolidation reform) divided the villages and moved the farms.
In the area there are over twenty historic buildings from the 16th to the 19th centuries, which have been moved here from different parts of Uppland. Three farms line the village street, and on the edge stands a soldier’s croft (soldattorp). The largest farm is a typical Uppland plains farm, where the living house, storehouses, lider (sheds) and cowhouse form an enclosed farmyard. At Disagården there are also cultivated fields and older livestock breeds, for example Linderöd pigs, Roslagen sheep, Hedemora hens and Jämtland goats.
During the summer there are free tours, open house in some of the farms and family activities. The area also has a dance floor and a summer café, and the play exhibition Lill-Disa is aimed at children.
