About the museum
Finngården Rikkenstorp lies on a rise by the Lammitjärnen, in the heart of Dan Andersson's home district. In the 16th and 17th centuries many forest Finns sought refuge in Bergslagen from famine and unrest, and King Karl XI encouraged them to clear and cultivate the empty forests, with tax-free years at the start and military service and tax in return. Several Finnish families lived at Rikkenstorp, among them the Putkinen and Luominen families, and the Rikkinen family farmed the land from the 1680s to the 1940s.
The farm then stood abandoned for about thirty years. The Holmdahl family moved in during the 1970s and has since restored the farm so that it reflects the period around the 1860s, when it was at its largest and most cultivated. Today it is run as a living farm, with agriculture, shared farming and forestry.
Visitors can walk the farm's culture trail of about four kilometres and rest in the smoke-house courtyard. In the barn is the small Finnmark exhibition Levnadsöden och magi (Destinies and Magic), which depicts the lives of the Finnmark people, their joys, sorrows and faith. Dan Andersson and his friends in the Finnish forest also feature in the story. The farm is a visitor site in Ekomuseum Bergslagen.
