About the museum
Luossastugan in Skattlösberg is the memorial cabin of the writer Dan Andersson, who was born in the village in 1888 and is sometimes called the poet of Finnmarken. His father was a village schoolteacher. In 1905 the family tried to farm the Mårtens croft a little under one Swedish mil further north, but the attempt failed, and in 1912 the family moved back to Skattlösberg and settled in Luossastugan.
It was here that Dan Andersson wrote his first major work, Kolarhistorier (Charcoal Burners’ Stories), and most of Kolvaktarens visor (The Charcoal Watchman’s Songs). He died in Stockholm in 1920, aged 32.
Skattlösberg is a village of about ten farms on a round hill, in the middle of the Finnish settlement area Finnskogen, and it is part of the Skattlösberg nature reserve and Ekomuseum Bergslagen. In summer, tours are held in the cabin where Dan Andersson’s poems set to music are performed. The Dan Andersson week ends with the Luossafestivalen (Luossa festival) at the cabin in early August. Next to it lies the Finnish farm Finngammel, with a pörte (a Finnish-style log house) from 1771 and a charcoal kiln (kolmila) that can be seen in cross-section.
