About the museum

Göteborgs Bryggerimuseum is in the old brewery premises on J.A. Pripps gata in Västra Frölunda. The collections range from 1752 to around 1940 and are based on employees having preserved and restored objects from Gothenburg’s breweries over the years. The Frölunda brewery was inaugurated in 1976 but closed in 2002; the museum was saved and is run by Marc and Nina Rothausen, who have worked with tours and beer tastings on the premises since the Pripps era. Since 2015 beer has again been brewed on the site, by Göteborgs Nya Bryggeri.

The exhibition includes historic production equipment such as bottling and corking machines, yeast presses, beer filters, malting equipment and a bottle conveyor, as well as barrels and packaging. There are advertisements from the 1890s onwards, including by Albert Engström, a portrait gallery of notable Gothenburg business figures and a boardroom from 1922. The large work by the artist Nils Wedel in the Nawax technique, made in 1952 on commission from Pripp & Lyckholm, hangs in the museum.

Visits take the form of guided tours of the collections combined with a beer tasting.
