About the museum
Hägna is an old coaching inn in Od, by the old main road between Jönköping and the places along the Göta älv river. The main building is a cottage with a front chamber from the late 18th century, which according to legend was once visited by Carl von Linné. The coaching inn ceased in 1899 and the farm was then leased out, but after the last tenant died in 1955 it stood empty.
Today the farm is run as a local history museum by Gäsene Hembygds- och Fornminnesförening (Gäsene Local Heritage and Antiquities Association), which was formed in 1953 and has its main activities here. Some of the buildings have been moved here, among them the cottage of the Haragård smith from Alboga, and on the farm there are the Gästgivaregården (coaching inn building), the Smedjan (smithy) and the Farfarsstugan (grandfather’s cottage). The smithy belonged to the smith Gustav Claesson in Alboga. In summer, Hägnadagar (Hägna Days) are held with refreshments and entertainment, a midsummer celebration and theme projects.
