About the museum
The biggest event in the history of Komlösa is the extraction of fuel peat at Landtmossen during the First World War. The museum tells about it and shows a model railway with Landtmossen at one end, the cableway that carried the peat onwards, and Fristad's railway-station village at the other end.
The collection includes a peat works (torvverk) recovered from a bog at Taberg in Småland, and a Varrant locomotive (Varrantlok), the locomotive that ran at Landtmossen. According to the museum it is the world's only surviving one of its kind. The association has also built a narrow-gauge railway of about one kilometre, on which several peat locomotives (torvlok) and wagons run, as well as a horse-drawn tram.
The museum is run by a non-profit association, which is also responsible for the Vagnshistoriska museet (Museum of Vehicle History) in the same area, and it forms part of Komlösa kulturcentrum (Komlösa Culture Centre). Visits take place by booking, and the association offers, among other things, lectures, viewings and trips with peat locomotives or horse and carriage for companies and organisations.
