About the museum
Hamra vadmalsstamp is a 19th-century farm where, during the 1800s and the first part of the 1900s, people lived a self-sufficient existence from what was produced on the site. Besides the fulling mill (vadmalsstamp), where wool was pounded into homespun cloth (vadmal), there was a grinding mill, a sawmill and a stick planer (stickhyvel) for making roof shingles. Everything was driven by water power, and there was also a smithy.
Today there is a demonstration fulling mill with a water wheel, which is started during guided tours. The farm lies in the forest about 15 km south-west of Ekshärad in Hagfors municipality.
