About the museum
Hembygdsgården Kollsberg lies on a rocky headland on the northern shore of Lake Fryken in Torsby and is run by Fryksände hembygdsförening (local heritage society), which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. The site has been built up with several older buildings from the district, furnished in period style to show how people in Fryksdalen lived in everyday life and at celebrations.
Among the oldest and most distinctive houses is a Värmland Finnish smoke house (rökstuga), which is heated in the traditional way during visits so that the smoke gathers under the roof. In Torsbymuseet the history of the locality is told, from the Stone Age settlements to today's community. Skansboa is a general store from the late 1800s, and the site also includes a smithy dwelling, a schoolroom, farmhouse buildings, a skvaltkvarn (simple water mill), smithies and an amphitheatre.
A special exhibition concerns Värmlanders who worked as lumberjacks on the Pacific coast between 1880 and 1930. The exhibitions are being gradually expanded with, among other things, a shoemaker, a tailor, a school, a hospital, a hairdresser and a photographer. Around 400 members together contribute around 10,500 voluntary working hours per year to the farm, which also serves as a meeting place with events, refreshments and room rental.
