About the museum
Lysviks hembygdsgård (homestead museum) is located at Berga gård, about two mil north of Sunne, with a view over Lake Fryken. The main building is an old parish house (sockenstuga) that was once used as a school and stood next to the church in Lysvik. The local heritage society owns the house and moved it to Berga in the early 1980s.
The homestead museum contains a local museum with archaeological finds, older school materials and household utensils, as well as a miniature model of a 19th-century sawmill. There is also a radio museum. In the old country shop stands an unusual shop dragon (boddrake) which, according to tradition, protected the shop against intruders. On the grounds there is a pleasure pavilion from the 1830s, appreciated for its unusual architecture.
The local heritage society also runs a hostel at Berga gård and organises traditional events such as Valborg (Walpurgis Night) and Midsummer celebrations.
