About the museum
Hasselfors lies in south-western Närke, in the western part of the old ironworking area of Bergslagen. The works started in 1671 with a hammer forge (hammarsmedja), and in 1850 a blast furnace (hytta) for producing bar iron (stångjärn) came into operation. For more than four centuries ironworking shaped the locality, and later sawmills, peat extraction and forestry and farming were also added. The company Hasselfors Bruks AB was sold off and ceased in the mid-1990s.
In the northern part of the village the old works still exists, with a preserved works setting and red wooden houses from the time of ironworking. Here lies the Hasselfors bruksmuseum, which portrays the activities of the works and the district over the centuries. The museum is run by Hasselfors byalag (village association).
