About the museum
Kristinehamns hembygdsgård is run by Kristinehamns och Varnums hembygdsförening (local heritage society), which was founded on 18 October 1925 and received its present name in 1931. The farm lies in a park setting where a stream runs through the area, and it brings together several red timber buildings from different periods, many of which were moved here from other parts of the town and district.
Lundbomsgården, built around 1850 and moved here in 1938, is furnished as a 19th-century bourgeois home with, among others, the Broströmsrummet (Broström Room) and the Tyforsrummet (Tyfors Room). Norrgården from the 1860s previously stood on Gamla Kyrkogatan and today houses Norrgårdens café. The Soldatbostället (soldier's homestead) from 1786 was moved to the site in 2009 and opened in 2011. Also belonging to the area are Mellankvarn, which was formerly called Smedby kvarn and is mentioned as early as 1625; the present building is probably from 1811. There is also Logen from 1999, Lusthuset and Vävarstugan from 1935.
The society organises midsummer, National Day and Valborg celebrations, lectures and a Christmas market, and offers guided tours of the buildings by booking.
