About the museum
Björkborn manor house was built around 1815 as the residence of the owners of Björkborn ironworks. When Alfred Nobel bought AB Bofors-Gullspång in 1894, the manor house came with the purchase, and the following year, 1895, his laboratory was completed beside the manor house. Nobel died in 1896.
The manor house opened as a museum in 1978. Visitors are given a guided tour of the manor house and Alfred Nobel’s laboratory, where an exhibition tells of his inventions and companies. During the season dramatised tours and the performance “Två liv, ett arv” (Two Lives, One Legacy) are also given.
On the site there is also Café Nobel in the old cowshed and Fiffiga huset, an experimental workshop for children and adults. During 2026 the manor house is undergoing a roof renovation, which may affect opening hours.
