About the museum
Hönö Hembygdsförening was founded in 1954 and owns and runs Hönö heritage farm with the homes of Tôsera and Olause, and the mill on Hönö Heden. The society wants to give islanders and visitors a sense of how people lived on the island in earlier centuries, and works with guided visits, gatherings at the farm, a theatre group, surveys and documentation. One of the farm’s special attractions is the old shop.
The hättekvarn on Hönö Heden is also owned by the local heritage society. It is mentioned as early as 1845 in an estate inventory from Holtsunga village in Torsby in Bohuslän. In winter storms three of the mill’s four sails were blown off, and an inspection showed that the panelling also needs replacing, a large and costly project for which the society is raising money.
