About the museum
Öckerö local heritage society was formed on 29 June 1962 at a meeting in Öckerö municipal hall. The society wants to arouse interest in the local heritage and preserve the cultural-historical memories of the district. The heritage farms lie by Öckerö old church along Bygdevägen and comprise four dwelling houses, a shop, a barn with a schoolroom, a fire house with a fire engine, a laundry house, a boathouse, an earth cellar and the community hall Tönns-Annas.
Most of the houses are named after those who lived there. Svens Andreases, nearest the church, has roots in a fishing and farming family since the 1600s and today holds a complete household with textiles, handicrafts and a room with boat models. Soffis is a shop with fittings from old businesses on Öckerö, Hildas is a preserved dwelling from the mid-18th century with fishing and household implements, and Bettis is a double house that was moved to the area in 1991. Petters Sanders, a fisherman’s cottage from about 1875, is used as a bakehouse.
In the barn there are many tools for farming, carpentry and fishing, as well as a radio museum, a schoolroom and a shoemaker’s workshop. The collections are shown on Saturdays in summer, and for bus trips, school classes and groups viewings can also be arranged at other times by agreement.
