About the museum
Jävrebodarnas fiskecamp was started in 1988 by Kjell and Harriet Persson on the coast south of Piteå. After many years of collecting, Kjell was able to open his own museum next to the camp in early summer 2007. In 2000 their son Tomas Persson had taken over the running of the fishing camp. In 2008 the museum received Piteå Municipality's award for environmental, nature and cultural heritage conservation.
The museum was built by Kjell Persson himself and holds close to 60,000 objects. Many of them have been used for hunting and fishing. There is also one of the largest tool collections for woodworking, including thirteen planes that are over 600 years old. Inside the museum are several complete village shops (lanthandlar) with over 30,000 packages and other objects from the period 1800–1960, including tins and salt-herring cans from local manufacturers in Bertnäs and Stenskär, as well as a large number of lead shot and sinker tins (lodbössor).
At the entrance to the museum is a rustic café with furniture and fittings that Kjell Persson has made by hand.
