About the museum
Stackgrönnans båtmuseum (Stackgrönnan Boat Museum) belongs to Skellefteå museum and is housed in the former boatyard of Bröderna Lundqvist (the Lundqvist Brothers) on the southern bank of Skellefteälven, about ten kilometres downstream from Skellefteå. During the first half of the 1970s Skellefteå museum began collecting working boats, and in the 21st century a move to Kåge was investigated, but the museum stayed at Stackgrönnan.
In the large hall are shown working boats from a time when the boat was a tool of work and the most common means of transport. The exhibition of boat engines is one of Sweden's largest and ranges from large inboard engines to locally made Örvikare and American snurror engines. Since 1998 the association Föreningen Skellefteå Allmogebåtar (Skellefteå Folk Boats Association) has shown the building of traditional boats in part of the premises.
