About the museum
Kista hembygdsgård (Kista Homestead Museum) is located on Väddö in Roslagen, a few kilometres from Älmsta. The farm consists of 21 buildings from the 1700s, 1800s and 1900s and shows a farmstead environment with a main house, cowshed, stable, windmill, smithy, linbasta (flax-processing house), a rielada and a long log building (loglänga) with a reed roof. Since August 2011 the homestead museum has been designated a protected building by the County Administrative Board of Stockholm.
The farm is owned and managed by Väddö hembygds- och fornminnesförening (Väddö Local Heritage and Ancient Monuments Association). In the hayloft (höskulle) of the cowshed there is a museum with around 3,500 older objects from the Väddö district. Next to the farm runs an ancient-monument trail to a burial ground from the Late Iron Age.
The association organises recurring events such as midsummer celebrations, a fiddlers' gathering (spelmansstämma), an open-air service and Kistadagen (Kista Day). In recent years the sails of the windmill have been restored, and in the kitchen garden and on the farm, tours and coffee sales are held in summer.
