About the museum
Kungsholms fort (Kungsholm Fort), together with Drottningskärs kastell (Drottningskär Castle) on Aspö, guarded the entrance to Karlskrona for more than 300 years. The unusual round harbour has become something of a symbol of Karlskrona's status as a World Heritage Site.
The fort is still used as part of the Swedish defence and is a military area that cannot be visited on one's own. By the fort's walls grow exotic plants from all over the world, which for long periods were brought here by the navy's long-voyage ships. On the island there is a museum that reflects the fort's history.
