About the museum
Museum för rörligt kustartilleri is located on Aspö in the Karlskrona archipelago, near Drottningskär. The collection contains equipment that was in use with the mobile coastal artillery from the late 19th century until the unit was disbanded in 2000, and in 2005 a government inquiry declared it so unique that it must not be dispersed.
The mobile coastal artillery was born in Karlskrona in 1897, when the fortress was given a fourth company for the armament at Koholmen and Klinteberga. After the coastal artillery was formed in 1902 and the Karlskrona Coastal Artillery Regiment, KA 2, was established, the units developed step by step from horse-drawn batteries to motorised battalions with guns, anti-aircraft artillery and missiles.
The museum consists of an indoor and an outdoor exhibition. The indoor area is about 1,850 square metres and is divided into two larger exhibition areas and three smaller rooms: the orders room, the theme room and the library. Outdoors, equipment is shown on an area of the same size. The collection includes guns, fire-control equipment, missile and anti-aircraft equipment, combat, communication and maintenance equipment, terrain vehicles, motorcycles and uniforms, mostly from the Second World War onwards.
