About the museum
Kvarngården in Björkfors shows an exhibition of objects from the past and information about the district's history, with a focus on farming and Björkfors bruk (Björkfors works). The village grew up around a mill, a power station, a forestry and farming school, a dairy and an ironworks. The estate owner August Bergman financed a road of about 20 km to the crown road, and a school was set up in 1871.
In connection with the exhibition there is a summer café in Soldattorpet (the soldier's croft), serving homemade fika and light lunches. The site lies by the Sangisälven rapids, with views of Björkfors manor (herrgård), one of Norrbotten's largest dairy farms, and Björkfors church. Every Midsummer Eve, midsummer is celebrated at Kvarngården with coffee and dancing around the midsummer pole (stången).
