About the museum
Lärbro Bygdemuseum is run by Lärbro hembygdsförening and is located in premises that once belonged to Lärbro krigssjukhus (war hospital). To preserve the old environment, the exteriors of the buildings have been changed relatively little, while the interiors have been rebuilt for the museum's needs.
The collection is based on objects donated by private individuals and on the collections that previously existed at Visby bilmuseum and Ewys museum.
The exhibition is divided into two parts and deals with people's efforts to achieve a reasonable standard of living on northern Gotland in the 1800s and early 1900s. One part shows crafts, sideline occupations, home management, home environments and cultural personalities. The other part presents cars, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles and other vehicles that changed people's ability to get out into the world, including one of Gotland's first cars, an Oldsmobile from 1904, and a T-Ford from 1920.
