About the museum
Lesjöfors was one of Sweden's many works communities, and when Lesjöfors AB went bankrupt in 1985, large parts of the works area stood empty. The artist Larseric Vänerlöf proposed a museum in the premises that had become vacant, and the idea was supported by, among others, Filipstad Municipality. With the cultural association Rikoschetten as the driving force, the first part of the museum opened in 1990.
The museum aims to portray the work and housing of ordinary people across several generations, and to show how society changed in the second half of the 1900s. The collections consist of original objects from different parts of the community, and environments such as a home, a factory and an office have been recreated. There is also an exhibition on the history of bandy in Lesjöfors and a separate pavilion with the collections of the accordionist Signe Gustafsson.
The museum and its collections were donated by Rikoschetten to Värmlands Museum (Värmland Museum), which today runs the operation with support from Statens kulturråd (the Swedish Arts Council), Region Värmland and Filipstad Municipality. The buildings are located by Smedammen, close to Trollstigen.
