About the museum
Lysekils Dykmuseum is Sweden’s only museum entirely devoted to the history of diving and is run by Föreningen Lysekils dykmuseum (Lysekil Diving Museum Association). The idea for the museum arose when Swedish sport diving turned 60 in 2018, with the aim of creating a place of knowledge about diving, the sea and underwater environments.
The exhibition Svenska dykpionjärer (Swedish Diving Pioneers) follows Swedish sport diving in the 1950s and 1960s. It shows authentic equipment, historical photographs, diving suits, a dykdrake, a pressure chamber and ship’s clocks. The museum also tells about the wrecks of the Amasis and the Antares, which were discovered by the diving association Tång-Johans vänner in Lysekil.
The museum shares premises with Föreningen L. Laurin in the building known as Skandiamuseet by the north harbour. The association offers guided group visits all year round and a guided city walk focusing on diving and diving history.
