Lahälla Knottfabrik

About the museum

Lahälla knottfabrik is one of the few surviving factories of its kind in Bohuslän. Here so-called knott (small granite paving stones, known as setts) were made with a drop hammer that remains in its original condition. The factory building dates from the late 19th century and has been restored.

Next to the factory lies the Sodom quarry, where granite was broken by hand and by machine for more than a hundred years. Stone extraction in Lahälla is documented from the 1880s to the late 1950s. On the site there is also a preserved transformer station and other traces of the stone industry.

Visitors can walk around the area and wander among the rock blocks in the quarry. On site there are storytelling benches and QR codes that let you listen to stories from the place on your mobile. Guided tours and events are announced on the website and on social media.
