About the museum
Malmöns hembygdsförening (Malmön local heritage society) was started in 1983 and then began building up its museum. The house was originally a private home rented by the builder Tankred Andersson, and therefore the museum is called Tankreds hus.
The museum shows how life on Malmön found expression in sailmaking, cooperage, fishing, cargo shipping and home life. Next to the site is Stenepokens smedja in Gulldalen, built in 1937 and with four double forge hearths. It is one of the country's oldest surviving smithies of its kind.
