About the museum
Stranda hembygdsförening (Stranda Local Heritage Society) was formed in 1925 with the aim of saving and arousing interest in the inherited natural and cultural heritage of the district. The activities are at Elgerumsgården in the Mönsterås urban area, where fourteen buildings stand in a park. Some of them are original; others have been moved there to be preserved.
In the buildings the association has set up exhibitions on various themes, using objects collected over the years. The most recent are about seafaring, a schoolroom, cinemas and a boudoir from the 1870s and 1880s. The farm also has a pharmacy museum (apoteksmuseum).
During the summer, regular guided tours are held at the farm, and the association organises cultural walks and storytelling evenings. Car enthusiasts also meet in the park. With over 1,100 members, Stranda Local Heritage Society is one of the largest in the country.
